In June of this year, François Medalle and his partner will embark on the great journey of a lifetime with their BamBuk e-trike tandem.
The Sun Trip is the name of the great adventure in which only participants with solar-powered bicycles take part. It is particularly important that the energy is drawn exclusively from solar power. Aids are completely prohibited. Exception: in absolute emergencies, an additional charger may be used.
It starts in Lyon (France). From there, the adventure cyclists are free to choose which route they take to Canton (South China). However, there are a few forbidden geographical areas that must not be travelled!
Otherwise, similar to a boat race on the high seas, they are not accompanied by assistance vehicles. The principle of supporting each other applies. In doing so, they are subject to the so-called “duty to assist". In addition, there will be people offering their help along the route, for example in the form of spare parts. For safety reasons, all participants are equipped with emergency beacons. This means they can be geo-localised at any time and send alarm signals.
The adventurer or adventurers who reach their destination first - in less than 100 days - and have recharged their batteries using only solar energy will be deemed the winners of the Solar Challenge. With their achievement, they will demonstrate the efficiency of renewable energies for mobility. He or she will become a global ambassador for clean energy.
We are very proud that François and Gilles are travelling the world with the BamBuk e-trike tandem and are very excited to see how they will master this challenge.
They built the solar roof themselves. We only made a few auxiliary structures for this.
So we have to keep our fingers crossed! We will of course try to keep you up to date;-)(Y)
